Ground Hunting Blinds
Wind Direction and Hunting (deer, turkey, etc)?
I am 25 years old and although I have been hunting quite a few times in my life, I have never really learned how to hunt the right way. One thing I am hearing alot of people talk about is wind direction. I will be deer and turkey hunting tthis fall in northern Michigan. i hunt out of a ground blind but I am still confused about the wind.
Do I want to sit with the wind in my face or do I sit with the wind to my back?
When I get to a good spot I am always unsure of which direction to sit> and does it matter what time of day it is? Thanks to everyone hat answers!
The first answer is right, for deer and most mammals. For turkeys however the wind is not an issue. Deer have an excellent sense of smell and can detect you before you see them if the wind is favorable (for them, not you). Turkeys have great vision and can see in color, but their sense of smell is not nearly as acute as a deer’s, or yours for that matter. I honestly don’t know how well small game animals, such as squirrels and rabbits, can smell, but if you hunt predators such as coyotes and foxes, you have to watch the wind carefully.
